Musa Eva Akter
(Karail Bowbazar, Dhaka)
Eva is about to move up to Class 4, but her life was suddenly turned upside down by a devastating slum fire. The fire destroyed not only her school but also her family’s home. Since then, Eva and her family have been living under a temporary shelter made of tarpaulin, struggling to rebuild their lives from nothing. Eva has been suffering from a stomach tumour since early childhood. Recently, her mother had to leave her job to take Eva to doctors and hospitals for treatment. Tragically, all of Eva’s medical test reports were also destroyed in the fire before they could be shown to the doctor. Now, the family does not have the means to repeat the tests or return to the hospital. Because her mother had to quit working, she is no longer able to contribute financially. The entire responsibility of the family now rests on Eva’s father, who works as a night guard. His modest salary is not enough to cover medical expenses, daily survival, housing needs, and education costs. In addition to Eva’s situation, the family also struggles to manage the education expenses of her elder brother. Before the fire, when both parents were working, they could barely manage their needs. Now, with everything lost and income reduced, the family is facing extreme hardship. In this critical situation, a sponsorship for Eva would bring much-needed support. It would give her family hope and stability during one of the most difficult periods of their lives.
