Md. Taiyeb
(Mirpur 12 Slum, Dhaka)
Taiyeb comes from a family of five that struggles to survive on a very unstable income. His father sells vegetables by pushing a van, walking long hours on foot throughout the day. The physical strain often makes him ill, which means he cannot work every day. Even on the days he is able to work, his income is uncertain and varies greatly. Because of this irregular income, it has become extremely difficult to manage the family’s daily expenses. Taiyeb’s mother used to work, but she is now unable to do so as she must care for Taiyeb’s two-year-old younger sister. With no one else to look after the child, she cannot leave the house to earn an income. With his father’s single earnings, the family must manage house rent, food, and the education expenses of both Taiyeb and his elder brother. Carrying all these responsibilities alone has become overwhelming. A sponsorship for Taiyeb would ease a major worry for the family by supporting his education. This support would bring much-needed relief to the household and help the family move forward with a little more stability.
