Mst. Asma
(Mirpur 12 Slum, Dhaka)
Asma lives with her younger sister and mother at her maternal grandparents’ home. When Asma was only three years old, her father left the family and has never contacted them since. From that moment, life became a daily struggle for the family. Asma’s grandfather drives a rickshaw and tries his best to support the household, including the education expenses of Asma’s two uncles. After Asma and her family came to live with them, it became impossible for him alone to manage all the expenses. To support the family, Asma’s mother started working as a domestic helper. She leaves early in the morning and works all day, returning home late at night, yet her income remains very limited. Adding to their hardship, Asma’s grandmother suffers from multiple illnesses, and a significant amount of money is spent on her medicines and treatment. Due to severe financial constraints, seven family members are forced to live together in a single room, as they cannot afford additional living space. Now that Asma has started going to school, her education expenses have become another heavy burden for the family. Despite everything, her family wants her to continue her studies and build a better future. With a sponsorship, this financial burden would be lifted from Asma’s family, ensuring that her education can continue without interruption and bringing relief and hope to everyone involved.
