Solaiman
(Mirpur 12 Slum, Dhaka)
Solaiman is the youngest of three brothers. His two elder brothers were unable to continue their education and are now searching for work, but they have not yet found any employment. The responsibility of supporting the entire family falls on his parents. Solaiman’s father drives an auto-rickshaw, but rising numbers of rickshaws and fewer passengers mean his income is much lower than before. His mother works as a domestic helper, and together their combined income is barely enough to cover household expenses. On top of this, Solaiman’s father suffers from diabetes and must take regular medication, which adds to the family’s expenses. After paying for rent, food, and medical costs, the family struggles just to get by. Despite all these hardships, Solaiman’s mother is determined to keep him in school so that he does not have to face the same future as his elder brothers. She is making every possible effort to continue Solaiman’s education, even when resources are extremely limited. With the support of a sponsorship, Solaiman would be able to continue his studies without interruption, giving his family hope and a chance for a better future.
