Shutopa
(Mohakhali Sattala Slum, Dhaka)
Shutopa is a bright and determined young girl who dreams of continuing her education despite the many obstacles her family faces. She lives with her parents, two sisters, maternal grandparents, and aunt a large family that struggles to make ends meet. Her father works tirelessly but earns very little, and much of that goes into repaying loans. Her mother, though eager to help, cannot work outside because she must care for Shutopa’s youngest sister. The primary responsibility of supporting the family has fallen on her aging grandmother, who works as a cleaner to keep everyone afloat. Shutopa’s grandfather, once a contributing member of the family, has been unable to work since suffering a stroke a few years ago. The burden of this situation has already forced Shutopa’s elder sister to drop out of school. Shutopa, however, holds on to her dream. She doesn’t want her story to end the same way. Her unwavering determination has inspired her mother, who now tries everything within her power to keep her in school. A sponsorship would not only lift a huge burden off this struggling family but would also give Shutopa the chance she deserves a chance to continue her education and build a better future.
