Irfan Iresh
(Mohakhali Sattala Slum, Dhaka)
With the sponsorship, Irfan’s educational journey has taken on a steadier form. His madrasa expenses, including tuition and essential stationery, are now consistently taken care of, removing the uncertainty that once surrounded his studies. This has allowed him to remain in the madrasa without interruption and continue learning in a more settled environment. At home, the situation has also become somewhat more manageable. His grandmother, who was previously struggling to balance irregular income from teaching Arabic in the slum with all household and educational needs, now experiences less pressure regarding Irfan’s schooling. While their overall living conditions remain challenging, the most immediate educational burden has been eased. For Irfan and his grandmother, this support has brought quiet relief and renewed hope. It has reduced the constant stress of arranging madrasa-related costs from unpredictable earnings. They are deeply thankful to the sponsor, as this assistance has helped secure Irfan’s place in education and given him a more stable path to continue his studies.
Irfan is a sweet and shy 8-year-old. Irfan's father married another woman and left Irfan with his grandmother after his mother died. Since then, Irfan has been staying with his grandmother and uncle. His grandfather also left them a long time ago. His grandmother teaches Arabic to the kids in the slum. She maintains their family of three with the fees she gets from teaching, which vary a lot depending on the number of students she gets. His uncle doesn't contribute anything to the family. Irfan studies in a madrasa. The teachers let him eat one meal there for free, considering their situation, but his grandmother bears the rest of the expenses, like tuition fees and stationery. With her varying income, it is very difficult for her to maintain their family and Irfan's expenses. A sponsorship would really help ease their struggles.
