Afsana Akter
(Mohakhali Sattala Slum, Dhaka)
Afsana’s days at school have changed for the better. She no longer worries about missing lessons or lacking books and supplies. Now, she can focus, participate, and enjoy learning with her classmates. Her curiosity and determination shine through in every activity. The sponsorship has brought a sense of relief and reassurance to her family. Her mother, who works long hours as a cleaner while caring for the family, no longer has to worry about how Afsana will continue her schooling. The support has given the family a little breathing space, allowing them to focus on helping Afsana grow and thrive despite their challenges. For Afsana, this support is more than financial help. It is encouragement, confidence, and the chance to keep growing despite the obstacles around her. Her family is deeply grateful, and every day, Afsana approaches school with renewed energy and excitement for the future.
Afsana is a bright and determined 2nd-grade student at I.P.H. School and College in Dhaka. She comes from a large family, with two older sisters and a younger brother. Her family faces significant financial challenges. Afsana’s mother works as a cleaner, but her income is not enough to support the family’s needs. Additionally, Afsana’s father is a day laborer but he can't always work as he's not fully stable mentally. Still, he tries to work whenever he finds one. Due to financial constraints, two of her siblings had to be sent to the village, but despite these hardships, Afsana’s family continues to struggle to make ends meet. A sponsorship would make a significant difference, enabling Afsana to stay with her family in Dhaka and continue her education without interruption.
