Akhi Akter
(Mohakhali Sattala Slum, Dhaka)
Akhi's life is starting to improve as a result of this kind sponsorship. Her mother is no longer constantly afraid about removing her daughter from school because of financial difficulties. She can now relax knowing that Akhi's future is in a more stable position now that the financial weight of her schooling has been removed. Akhi is doing really well in the program. She enjoys participating in it. She looks forward to the weekly group events and has made a lot of new acquaintances. She has gained knowledge and confidence from the awareness classes, which has also helped her get ready for the difficulties that lie ahead. Once worried that her daughter would experience the same hardships as she did, her mother is now optimistic. She’s deeply grateful to the sponsor for standing by Akhi and giving her the opportunity to build a better future—one where she won’t have to depend on anyone, no matter what life brings..
Akhi's father is unable to work. Because of the deformity in one of his hands, he is unable to function normally. As a result, he does not receive any work. Akhi's mother works as a maid to provide for their family of five. Her eldest brother was forced to drop out of school because his parents couldn't afford his tuition. However, Akhi's mother does not desire the same thing for her daughter. In fact, she said, "I won't stop my daughter's education even if it means starving myself." She wants Akhi to have sufficient education to support her family independently. Considering her age, she pays close attention to her academics. This makes her mother hope that with proper education, Akhi won't have to endure the same hardships as her mother did working at low-paying jobs if her future husband is unable to work. If she gets a sponsorship, it will help them a lot to ensure that she'll never have to leave school.
