Rifat Hossain
(Mirpur 12 Slum, Dhaka)
Thanks to the support of sponsorship, Rifat’s education is now secure, and he no longer has to worry about the possibility of dropping out. He has recently been admitted to a madrasa where he’s doing quite well, showing great dedication and interest in his studies. With the help he’s receiving — including stationery, extra books, and access to a private tutor — Rifat now has everything he needs to stay on track academically. The support has not only made a difference in his education but has also brought relief to his hardworking parents. Now that Rifat’s needs are being taken care of, his parents can focus more on their other two children, especially working toward getting their youngest daughter admitted to school. The entire family is truly grateful for the sponsor’s support, which has brought hope, stability, and opportunity into their lives.
Rifat’s family came to Dhaka after losing their everything in river erosion. Living in the capital has not been very easy for them. His father works at a mobile phone repair shop. But his income is not sufficient to meet their costs. So, his mother works as a tailor from home. However, her income is also very scant, as people don’t pay much for tailoring in their poor neighborhoods. Both of Rifat’s parents work day and night yet fail to provide for their family of 5. In this situation, paying for Rifat’s and his brother’s school fees, tuition fees, and buying their stationeries are very difficult for them. They are trying their best to keep both of them at school but it might not be possible. On top of that Rifat’s sister needs to be admitted to a school but they could not get her admitted yet. A sponsorship would really take some burden off of their shoulders and keep Rifat at school.
