Sanjida Akter
(Mohakhali Sattala Slum, Dhaka)
Thanks to the sponsorship, Sanjida's world has opened up in so many wonderful ways. With her overdue school fees taken care of, she was able to return to school without any worries. But the support didn’t just help her stay in school—it helped her grow in so many ways. She made new friends, discovered exciting new interests, and kept shining in her studies. What once felt like an uncertain future now feels full of endless possibilities. Sanjida is more confident than ever that with her education and the help she’s received, she can achieve everything her mother has always dreamed for her. Both Sanjida and her mother are incredibly thankful to the sponsor for giving her this life-changing opportunity.
Sanjida's father died when she was a little girl. Since then her mother worked very hard to maintain the family with two little children. She had to work at multiple houses as a maid just to have food on their plates and a roof over their heads. Even with all these struggles, Sanjida's mother wanted her children to be educated enough to get a proper job, so they don't suffer as she did after her husband died. However, the pandemic has worsened their situation even further. Sanjida's mother lost all her jobs during the lockdowns. She couldn't pay the house rent or the school fees of her children. Though she got a job now, it is not enough to maintain the family and pay all the due rent and school fees. She informed us that Sanjida was very upset when she heard that she might not go to school again. Sanjida is a quiet girl at home but when she's at school, she can actually express her joyful nature. She loves to learn new things. Her school was the only place where she could do that. If she gets a sponsorship, it will help a lot to keep her in school and it will ease her mother's struggles as well.
