Sharmin
(Mohakhali Sattala Slum, Dhaka)
The sponsorship is really making a big difference in Sharmin’s life. Thanks to the support, she’s getting the tutoring she needs, which is helping her do better in school and feel more confident. She also gets books, stationery, and all the essentials, so her family doesn’t have to worry about those extra costs. On top of that, Sharmin loves taking part in the fun activity programs organized by us. It’s a great chance for her to hang out with her friends and enjoy herself, something she hasn’t had much time for because of all her responsibilities at home. Sharmin is so grateful to the sponsor for the opportunity to keep studying and for all the support she’s getting.
Sharmin spends most of her time looking after her younger sister and their house. Both her parents have to work, leaving Sharmin and her sister alone at home. Yet, they are struggling to stay out of debt. As a maid, Sharmin's mother cannot earn much and her father also doesn't have any stable income. He is a decorator. One month he may have 2/3 events, in other months he may not get any events. It's very uncertain. With this income, they maintain their family with great difficulties. And as both Sharmin and her sister are growing up their expenses are increasing as well. In these circumstances, it is very difficult for them to continue Sharmin's education. After providing for the basic necessities, paying for her books, tuition, and other accessories is not feasible for them. But they really want her to study because now they know the importance of education. If they can get some help, they would be able to keep her at school longer.
